Inaugural Playing on the Porch event rocks Rockville Centre

The Rockville Centre Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Playing on the Porch event was a big hit in the village, with 24 houses hosting musicians on their front lawns on Sept. 7.

All afternoon, from 3 to 6 p.m., people walked the streets and enjoyed live music in the wonderful weather, said Brian Croutier, president of the Chamber of Commerce.
“People were around on their bikes,” he said, addressing residents at the a Village Board of Trustees meeting on Monday. “Families, friends, people who didn’t know each other introducing each other … it was just a great day.”

After the outdoor festivities, the music continued at the rooftop of Kasey’s Kitchen and Cocktails. The event also raised nearly $2,500 for Mr. B’s Playground.

“Everyone was very pleased and excited about this day,” Croutier said. “All the texts I’ve gotten from friends, family and people that I don’t even know just say, ‘Hey, can we make sure to continue doing this and how can we improve it?’ so we look forward to this becoming an annual event.”
